Myth #1 - "I'm not Aboriginal, so I can't foster an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander child."
VACCA welcomes Carers of any cultural or racial background. Providing a culturally safe, stable and loving home environment is what matters most.
At the heart of providing care for an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander child or young person is ensuring their cultural, social and emotional wellbeing – this is something almost anyone can do.
Myth #2 - “I can’t foster because I’m single, I can’t foster because I’m too old, I can’t foster because...”

If you’re over 21 and can provide a culturally safe, stable and loving home to an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander child or young person, you may be an ideal candidate.
Myth #3 - “I’ve never been a parent; I won’t be allowed to foster”
While experience caring for children can be helpful, it’s not a requirement to become a Foster Carer. What’s most important is being able to provide a culturally safe, stable and loving home.
