International Women's Day 2025 - March Forward

For nearly 50 years, VACCA has worked to support Aboriginal women and girls across Victoria. Through our services and programs, we work to protect their rights and to help them thrive.

This International Women's Day (IWD) we're celebrating the strong, proud women that work at VACCA; they empower the women and girls we work alongside to be strong and proud themselves. The work we do would not be possible without these women, who show up every day to support their clients, colleagues and community.

The 2025 IWD theme is ' March Forward'. The theme is a call to action to turn the promises of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (written in 1995) into real, actionable change. It outlines critical action areas where work was (and still is 30 years later) needed to ensure greater equality and opportunities for women and girls. We must always press forward for equality, never stepping back.

Aboriginal women are more likely to experience violence, abuse, oppression and exploitation. Through our programs, VACCA helps women and girls in community to live safely from abuse, focus on their education, avoid contact with the justice system and receive emergency support when they need it most.

We know that strong Aboriginal women are vital to strong families and communities – when they succeed, we all do. That’s why we want our Aboriginal girls to grow up strong and proud in their culture, fighting for their communities.
