We acknowledge with great sadness the passing of Aunty Marg Stewart last Friday.

Aunty Marg had been a member of the VACCA Board for a number of years between 1997-2011 during this time she had been the Chairperson of the Board between 2002-2007. It was while she was Chairperson that VACCA signed the Protocol with DHHS establishing ACSASS and its operations and functions.

Prior to retiring Aunty Marg had worked at the Bert Williams Centre and the Melbourne Juvenile Justice Centre. She was extensively involved with young people in the juvenile justice system.

Aunty Marg was a staunch community member who was passionate about the rights and wellbeing of Aboriginal children. Many will remember her active participation in children’s events organised by VACCA including the hours she spent face painting thousands of children’s faces.

VACCA offers our sincere and heartfelt condolences to the family of Aunty Marg, including our current Board Member, her son, Rodney Monohan.
