For many, Christmas is a wonderful time of the year about exchanging gifts and spending valuable time with family, friends and community. But for others, there may be no one to spend it with and no gifts to exchange.
Every year VACCA organises Christmas events for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people in our foster care, kinship care, residential care, and other programs. These events bring everyone together for a special day for our children and young people in care – and to help show our appreciation for the broader community.
At these events children and young people have an opportunity to have their photo taken with Koorie Santa, and everyone participates in different cultural activities and receive gifts.
Over 2,000 people in our communities attend these events, and we simply cannot do everything without your help.
How you can help
You can help provide a great Christmas for children and young people in care and in our other programs by making a donation or contributing a Christmas gift.
Every donation at this often-difficult time of the year helps make a difference.
To help make a bigger difference encourage your family, friends, workplace, school, or place of worship to contribute by hosting a fundraising initiative or by collecting gifts – together.
Make a donation
We understand that this is a busy time of the year, so a simple way to contribute is through a donation on our GiveEasy website.
Every donation helps – for example, as little as $30 ensures a child or young person receives a gift at one of our Christmas events.
Donate a gift
We need new unwrapped gifts such as toys, books and puzzles for children and young people of all ages.
Presents are welcome at all VACCA offices by early in December. VACCA offices are open Monday to Friday 9am-5pm.
