Who You Are

People of all backgrounds and diversities can provide foster care for Aboriginal children and young people. While it’s our priority to place Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children with families from their community and culture, this isn’t always possible, and people of all backgrounds can make wonderful foster carers. We can support you in creating a warm, nurturing environment for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children.

Your Home

You don’t need to already have kids in order to provide foster care, and people who are already parents can make great foster carers. As long as you’re over 21, have space in your home, and are committed to caring for an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander child, you are qualified to take the next steps to find out how to help make a lasting difference in a child’s life.

Next Steps

VACCA provides comprehensive training before your placement and on-call support throughout. You will also receive financial aid to cover the everyday costs of caring. Becoming a foster carer is a unique process for everyone, but most applicants become foster carers within four to six months. To start your foster care journey, please submit an expression of interest via our website – our team will be in touch to take you through the next step.
