Our Cultural Camps are for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people in care (aged 12 to 17 years). They help our young people grow in confidence, learn about and share in cultural knowledge and meet Elders, other young Aboriginal people and community members.
Who is it for?
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children in care, aged 12 to 17 years.
How it works
- Our camps are run over a few days, with staff and volunteers there to support every step of the way.
- Aboriginal staff from VACCA’s Cultural Programs lead healing and grounding sessions, helping young people reconnect with their spiritual wellbeing.
- There’s time for yarning circles, and chances to sit with Elders and other community mentors and leaders.
- We get everyone moving with outdoor activities and games, including traditional ones like Marngrook (the original Aussie Rules).
- Kids can explore cultural arts, crafts, dance, and music - expressing themselves through creativity.
- We hold space for Men’s and Women’s Business.
