Our Barreng Moorop program promotes positive change for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people who are currently involved, or at risk of being involved, with the youth justice system.
Who is it for?
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people aged 10 to 18 years.
- Young people who are currently involved, or at risk of being involved, with the youth justice system.
How it works
- We create positive change by helping young people build stronger connections with their families and culture.
- Each young person we work with has their own personalised plan which helps us to better understand and support the young person.
- We also connect families and young people to other culturally safe services and programs, both within VACCA and through other organisations.
- This program helps to:
- reduce high-risk behaviours by providing support and positive alternatives
- improve emotional health and wellbeing through tailored care and guidance
- strengthen family support networks and help improve relationships at home
- build identity and connection by reconnecting young people with their culture
- increase educational and work opportunities to help build skills and achieve their goals.
