If you’re aged 17 to 25 years old and of Aboriginal background or Torres Strait Islander descent, a Koorie Youth Traineeship with the Victorian Aboriginal Child Care Agency (VACCA) and MacKillop Family Services could be for you.
The Koorie Youth Traineeship (KYT) program is the result of a successful partnership between MacKillop Family Services (MacKillop) and Victorian Aboriginal Child Care Agency (VACCA) since 2013 which aims to deliver employment opportunities and beneficial career pathways for Indigenous Australians aged 17-25 within Victoria.
Both organisations have a strong commitment to help improve employment outcomes for Indigenous Australians.
About the role
The Traineeship Program has been developed to provide Indigenous youth an opportunity to gain practical workplace skills and a relevant qualification. The Program gives Indigenous youth the chance to participate in a unique learning opportunity. The trainees will complete a Certificate III or IV in Business. The delivery of this certificate will be conducted by a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) Sportsready Education & Employment. KYT is led by an Indigenous coordinator.
During the Traineeship Program the trainees will be rotated between VACCA and MacKillop ensuring they are given an opportunity to experience working both in an Aboriginal and Mainstream organisation.
The traineeship positions will be supported by the Aboriginal Traineeship Coordinator, Host Managers and a Steering Committee.
About the Organisations
VACCA is the lead Aboriginal child and family welfare organisation in Victoria advocating for the rights of Aboriginal children, young people and families. We provide a range of programs and services across the state that reinforce Aboriginal culture, encourage best parenting practices, and are focused on ensuring the safety of Aboriginal children. We are committed to the principles of self-determination, and advocate at a policy level for better outcomes for Victorian Aboriginal families so that their needs are met in culturally appropriate ways. VACCA is one of Victoria’s largest employers of Aboriginal people, and is committed to increasing its Indigenous workforce and developing career pathways for its Aboriginal staff.
MacKillop Family Services, a Catholic community agency, exists to support, foster hope and promote justice for children, young people and families, particularly those who have experienced distress, disadvantage and abuse.
MacKillop works across New South Wales, Victoria and Western Australia. The KYT program applies to Victoria only.
MacKillop Family Services recently became an accredited provider of The Sanctuary Model. Sanctuary supports organisations to provide a safe and caring environment for people affected by trauma, and to maintain a culture that reflects these qualities at every level within the organisation.
Applying is easy. Simply call the KYT Coordinator Samantha Jetta on 0418 869 317.
Traineeships are based in Victoria.
