Return to Country

Our Return to Country program facilitates Aboriginal children in care in Victoria (foster care, kinship care, residential care or leaving care) to visit the country of their language or clan groups.

Travelling with a VACCA support worker, the Return to County is part of the young person’s cultural plan and the trip includes all activities, accommodation, meals and travel and may include travel outside of Victoria. This enables the young person to fully immerse into culture and learn about their ancestral connections.

Return to Country involves:

Young people who live in care or who are leaving care the opportunity to travel to their home country to experience their culture and country first hand.

We may visit sacred sites, share knowledge and learnings about songs, stories, art, tracks, places, landforms, plants, animals and natural resources.

We learn from Elders and relatives about the significance of their heritage, stories, totems and clan and family obligations

Foster long lasting connections with extended family, including siblings.
