Story Book: Speaking to kids about testing

Home > COVID-19 Support > COVID-19 Resources > Story Book: Speaking to kids about testing

VACCA has created two easy-to-understand story books to help children understand why they are getting tested and what will happen during the process. The two stories are for when the test is completed at home or at a testing station or hospital.

We suggest reading the book with the child when:

  • You and the child are calm.
  • You can let them know that you are reading the story to them to explain what the COVID-19 test is and that it is to keep them healthy.
  • You can observe their reaction as you read to check if they understand, it’s ok to pause as you go through the story to talk more about things and provide them a chance to process.
  • You can reassure the child that you will be there to look after them while they get the test done.
