Program 2008 Conference About Us

CALL FOR PAPERS

VACCA is calling for expressions of interest from people who are interested in presenting papers or running workshops on the themes outlined below. There will be an opportunity for services to set up: displays, poster presentations, artwork or other products relevant to the conference theme.

 

Theme 1:

What do we know? – “That Culture and Self-determination works”

 

In this workshop session we are looking for papers which explore the role of culture and self-determination in:

  • Defining the Best Interests of Aboriginal children
  • Being central to Aboriginal children’s health & well being
  • Strengthening the capacity of Aboriginal agencies to take a lead role in providing services across the continuum of care
  • Building resilience and strengthening in Aboriginal, young people and families

Theme 2:

What do we do well? – Embedding Culture in Practice & Policy”

 

In this workshop session we are looking for papers which focus on the role of culture in both practice and policy formulation in promoting:

  • Healing
  • Family Strengthening
  • Better Educational outcomes
  • Aboriginal professional best practice and staff cultural well being
  • Cultural connections
  • Respectful partnerships and cultural competency; and
  • Building resilience

Within these themes we are looking for papers that cover the areas of:

  • the early years
  • adolescents
  • the underlying issues which impact on Aboriginal families
  • developing engagement strategies for men and women
  • kinship care and foster care

We are looking for 20 minute presentations and we would encourage presenters to use a variety of multimedia and creative approaches. You are invited to submit a 250 word abstract of your paper/presentation including any technical requirements with brief information (50 words) about yourself and any co-presenters to the Conference Organising Committee by April 11th 2008.
