RESIDENTIAL CARE PROGRAM

VACCA operates two residential care units, or Family Group Homes which can each accommodate four children at any given time.

Program Aims

The Family Group Homes provide an alternative environment for children who are unable to be cared for by their parents. Depending on the circumstances of each individual, children may be accommodated for emergencies or for short to long term placements.

Using the Looking After Children framework, caseworkers focus on the individual needs of the children. An Education Support worker is available to make sure that the educational needs of the children are met. This includes liaising with schools, providing in school support and home tutoring.

The Residential Care Program strives to maintain the Family Group Homes as safe, comfortable, well managed and culturally relevant environments.

Residential Care workers are responsive to the children’s needs, ensuring that their physical, social, emotional and educational requirements are met.

Our Staff Will:

  • Undertake the daily care of the children residing in the homes
  • Provide a positive and therapeutic response to children’s needs including the management of challenging behaviors where required
  • Maintain regular records and information regarding each child
  • Facilitate contact with natural parents and extended family members
  • Organise all necessary appointments such as counselors, doctors and dentists and accompany the children to these appointments
  • Take the children back to country wherever this is possible
  • Ensure the child is connected to the Aboriginal community

The Residential Care Program provides a high quality, culturally sensitive service to Aboriginal children in residential care.
